The best Jamaica airport is not automatically the airport with the lowest airfare. Your final decision should account for where you plan to stay, how long the ground transfer will take and whether your flight schedule fits the arrival route.
Start with your Jamaica destination
Select your main destination before comparing flights. Montego Bay, Negril and much of western Jamaica are usually planned through Sangster International Airport. Kingston is normally planned through Norman Manley International Airport, while some Ocho Rios and north-coast trips may work through Ian Fleming International Airport.
Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
MBJ is the primary visitor gateway for Montego Bay and many western or north-coast destinations. It is the practical starting point for most Negril itineraries and is also commonly used for Falmouth and Ocho Rios. The important distinction is that being served by MBJ does not mean the destination is close to the terminal.
A Montego Bay hotel may be a relatively short ride from the airport. Negril and Ocho Rios require longer road transfers, so travelers should compare flight arrival time, hotel check-in timing and transportation arrangements together.
Norman Manley International Airport (KIN)
KIN is the main arrival airport for Kingston and a useful gateway for eastern Jamaica. It can also be considered for Port Antonio, although the onward road journey remains substantial. Travelers planning culture, business, music history or an eastern Jamaica itinerary should begin their comparison here.
Ian Fleming International Airport (OCJ)
OCJ can provide a shorter ground journey for Ocho Rios and selected north-coast areas when a suitable flight is available. Because flight schedules and routes may be more limited, compare the entire itinerary rather than looking only at the distance from the airport.
Use a route-first flight comparison
Compare the total trip: airfare, flight schedule, airport, transfer cost, transfer duration and hotel arrival time. A cheaper flight can become a poor value when it creates a much longer transfer or an inconvenient overnight arrival.
Bottom line
